Referees Annual Summer Seminar 2018

On the 3rd and 4th August 2018 the referees attended the Gibraltar FA's annual Refereeing Summer Seminar where they were instructed on new changes to the Laws of the Game, match situations and other refereeing matters. A presentation was also given on Matchfixing raising awareness amongst participants.

Match Officials were also tested on their knowledge of the Laws of the Game through an online examination and video quiz.

With the theme "Be Properly Prepared" referees and assistant referees were grouped for analyses of match situations using UEFA and GFA material.

Presentations were given by Referee Manager Adrian Bacarisa, Tim Reoch on the recruitment and retention strategy, Referee National Fitness Coach David Mitchell, and Integrity & Security Officer Louis Wink.

Match Officials were also tasked in producing presentations on given match situations to their fellow colleagues producing interesting discussions.

Up and coming young referees Denis Perez and Seth Galia had this to say;

Denis Perez

The seminar was a great opportunity to learn and develop as a referee and also crucial to get to know and understand all the changes on the laws of the games, and the challenges we might be having next season. But not only that, it was good to hear about all the work which is been done to improve our fitness to the next level, about our matters as referees and also about match fixing, which unfortunately also exists in football."

Seth Galia

The Referees Summer Seminar once again proved to be an excellently organised event by the Gibraltar FA, with fantastic material being provided to us to improve our knowledge collectively on the new changes to the Laws of The Game, recognising different challenges and their educational video clips. We also had fantastic opportunities to improve our bond as a group with group work, and team building exercises. It was also good to watch clips from our individual games and discuss with one another, and learning from and working with my colleagues."
