The first round of the e-First Division took place on Sunday 7th January. Lions sit top of the pile thanks to their 6-2 triumph over Gibraltar Utd, however they will need to keep up their goal scoring form as Matchday One saw goals galore – 23 to be precise! As Lions lead solely on goal difference, it looks like the rest of the pack will be aiming for top spot as Lions take their slender lead into Matchday Two.
Here’s the lowdown on all the action..
Europa FC’s early goal set the tone for the first 45, which saw the home side double their lead just on the stroke of half-time. The second half saw a change of pace as Manchester 62 claw back a goal in the last 10 minutes. This set-up an exciting finale as the away side looked for the elusive equaliser however Europa stood firm as held on to their 1 goal lead.

This tasty tie ended in a goal fest with Lions going 2 up within half an hour. After Gib Utd pulled it back to 2-2, Lions went on to score 3 goals in 7 minutes to secure all 3 points and a spot at the top of the league table.

The only draw of the day saw Lynx take the lead twice only for Mons Calpe to match their efforts and hold them to a draw at the end of the 90. The away side showed their resilience when equalising late on after conceding a second with little under 20 minutes to go.

When Gibraltar Phoenix went ahead early on, the home side did not show any signs of panic and pegged it back to 1-1 within 3 minutes. It was a well fought out battle and the teams went into half-time at 2-2, however Lincoln proved too strong and got a 3rd soon into the 2nd period. Despite numerous attempts from Phoenix to level it up, Lincoln held on to take home all 3 points and secure their first victory of the competition.

Two equally matched sides came head to head in this exciting game which came to a climactic end. St. Joseph’s thought they were going home with a victory but their last minute attempt was thwarted by Glacis who hit them on the counter attack. The home side showed a great display of precision team work and clinical finishing to snatch a last minute winner right at the death.
