Gibtelecom to sponsor the Rock Cup in multi year deal

The Gibtelecom Rock Cup is to be the new name of the Gibraltar Football Association (GFA) Challenge Cup, following a partnership arrangement between the GFA and Gibtelecom. For many years this tournament has been known as the Rock Cup, which is a knockout competition between all the Gibraltar Football Clubs and modelled on the UK’s FA Cup. The four year deal, which starts with the 2016/17 season, was announced by the General Secretary of the Gibraltar Football Association, Dennis Beiso, and Gibtelecom’s Chief Executive Officer, Tim Bristow, at a press conference held at Gibtelecom’s headquarters in John Mackintosh Square on Wednesday 13 December 2016.

Gibtelecom will be the Rock Cup’s first title sponsor Dennis Beiso welcomed the partnership stating

Our new collaboration with Gibtelecom will help to promote the sporting and commercial success of club football in Gibraltar, and will help the Gibtelecom Rock Cup to grow from strength to strength. The Gibtelecom Rock Cup is, after all, Gibraltarian football’s national cup competition, and the eventual winners will go on to represent us in the UEFA Europa League. The partnership with Gibtelecom is therefore a positive step in the Association’s continued growth and development and an excellent opportunity to collaborate with a brand that shares many of our core values. We are very keen to progress commercial initiatives such as these going forward.”

Tim Bristow is delighted with the deal:

This sponsorship is the first step of what Gibtelecom hope is a long lasting partnership with the GFA, in which we can leverage the combination of Gibraltar football and Gibtelecom’s global communications reach. We are excited about joining the football community at a time when their success continues to grow, at home and abroad, and look forward to seeing the Gibtelecom Rock Cup winner in future UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) competitions. The local teams and their players’ commitment to success, and their culture of nurturing young talent, are values we share at Gibtelecom.”

The tournament will now also have its very own logo too and a brand new trophy :

The draw for the first round of the Gibtelecom Rock Cup takes place tomorrow (Wednesday 14 December 2016), and will be streamed like on the Gibtelecom and GFA social media sites, with fixtures starting in early January.
