Gibraltar’s historic domestic Cup competition, the Rock Cup begins this weekend with the first-round of the 2022 edition.

Europa FC vs Lynx FC is the first cup tie of the weekend on Saturday 5th February at 5pm. Europa FC, have enjoyed success in the competition recently, winning the trophy in three out of the last four seasons. For Lynx FC the chance to cause an upset and knock one of arguably the most fancied teams in the competition will be a huge motivational factor.

The Second fixture on Saturday afternoon sees St Joseph’s FC vs FC Hound Dogs. St Joseph’s will see this as the perfect opportunity to bounce back from a midweek draw in the National League and take a step closer to winning a domestic trophy. The Rock Cup is FC Hound Dogs’ annual foray into senior football and a tough draw for them means they are very much the underdogs in this tie.

On Sunday, Glacis United FC take on College 1975 FC. Glacis, last season’s finalists will be looking to kick off another fruitful cup run this season. For College 1975 the opportunity to knock out a Championship Group team will not be lost on them.

The final fixture of the first-round sees Manchester 62 FC take on last season’s double winners and current Rock Cup holders Lincoln Red Imps FC. For Manchester 62 FC, the first-round draw could not have provided tougher opposition, yet their impressive form this season, especially in the early part of the Gibraltar National League shows that on their day an upset may well be possible. Lincoln Red Imps will have other ideas as they will no doubt want to begin their defence of the trophy in style.

Lions Gibraltar FC, Mons Calpe SC and Europa Point all received byes in the first-round draw, and FCB Magpies automatically progressed into the second-round by virtue of winning the Challenge Group in the Gibraltar National League last season.
