The Gibraltar Football Association held its 3rd Ordinary General Assembly yesterday evening, its first in over two years due to the impact of the global Covid 19 pandemic.

At the General Assembly, which was fully attended by its members, Michael Llamas QC was re-elected as the Gibraltar FA’s President, and Mr Paul Lyon was elected as the Association’s Vice President.

Joining them in the Governance & Strategy Board, the membership nominated and elected Ms Kirsty Neale, Mr Julian Santos and Mr Kevin Duarte, with industry expertise in compliance, legal, and accountancy fields respectively.

The Assembly was chaired by the Association’s General Secretary, Mr Ivan Robba, who addressed the Agenda points together with his Board of Directors. Presentations were also delivered on the Association’s annual audited accounts, as well as its activity, and its structural and organisational set up.

Members present raised questions and encouraged constructive debate on the Agenda issues up for discussion, and by its conclusion, there was general consensus on the way forward.

Also in attendance, was UEFA First Vice President and President of the Swedish FA Karl-Erik Nilsson, UEFA’s Chief of National Association’s Development Thierry Favre, FIFA Council Member Isha Johanssen and FIFA’s Director of Member Association Services Tom Gorissen.

In his address to the General Assembly, Mr Nilsson commended the Gibraltar FA and it’s members for being able to hold an ‘in person’ General Assembly in these times and congratulated the members on holding open and honest discussions on issues which football, across all of Europe, is currently facing as the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic begins to kick in.

FIFA Council Member Isha Johanssen, who is from Sierra Leone, also expressed her delight at being present at the General Assembly and highlighted how well the work of the Gibraltar FA is seen by FIFA, as well as on a personal level, expressing her passion for the similarities she shares with a small country who is always aspiring to ‘punch above its weight’

Speaking after the conclusion of the Assembly, the Gibraltar FA General Secretary, Ivan Robba, stated

“This has been a much needed General Assembly in which many issues required discussion and debate, especially given the time that has elapsed since we were last able to convene together. I am delighted that we have been able to engage constructively with our stakeholders, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for attending and for their invaluable contributions throughout. I would also like to congratulate the elected members of the Governance & Strategy Board on their appointments, and look forward to working with them and with our Members on all of the challenges that lie ahead.”
