Gibraltar's Futsal Referees took part in a FIFA Seminar ovet the past weekend led by FIFA Technical Instructor Pedro Galan. At the seminar seminar specific topics on the application of the Futsal Laws of the Game were covered including:

  • Recognition of Challenges with appropriate disciplinary sanctions.
  • Free Kick Management.
  • Match situations covering offences at denying obvious goal scoring opportunities or stopping promising attacks.

Active participation through group discussions ensured all Futsal referees could obtain maximum benefit as they continue their development as Futsal match officials..

Prior to the technical presentations the Futsal referees underwent their FIFA Fitness Tests consisting of a Speed Test, Change of Direction Ability and an Intermittent Endurance Testing.

FIFA Futsal Referee Zyl Sheriff commented: "Getting all our Futsal referees together at such a seminar builds our confidence to continue to strive in getting better. It also enhances teamwork helping each other through group discussions and undertaking the FIFA Futsal Referee Fitness Tests. Having a top FIFA Futsal Referee Technical Instructor in Pedro Galan delivering the technical presentations will no doubt make as all better futsal referees. A thoroughly enjoyable FIFA seminar.”

Gibraltar FA Referee Observers took part in their final PGMOL/Gibraltar FA Referee Observer Workshop of this season.  At the workshop reviews on their development as Referee Observers were held along with with Best Practice examples and enhanced skills going forward.

Speaking after the end of a busy weekend, Gibraltar FA Referee Manager, Adrian Bacarisa Commented:

“As far as Futsal refereeing is concerned, we have been working with FIFA for some time on getting this first FIFA Futsal Referee Seminar off the ground. It was the first seminar (of many to come)  supported by FIFA to develop our Futsal officials. Having FIFA Futsal Referee Technical Instructor Pedro Galan delivering this one-day seminar was top notch and we can't wait for this relationship to develop further.

I am also delighted to say that PGMOL Instructors Richard Beeby and Peter Roberts returned to deliver the final Referee Observer workshop of the season as we continue to enhance the skill sets of our referee observers.  We are enthusiastically looking forward to continue working in partnership with the PGMOL with more development schemes planned for next season.”
