How we will be helping our community & frontline healthcare workers:

  • Donating £5000.00 to the GHA to purchase much needed extra Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Sponsoring and promoting GHA Social Media Activity.
  • Donating iPads to be used on the Hospital Wards to allow staff and patients to communicate with their loved ones during these difficult times.
  • Holding a weekly ‘Pizza Night’ where pizzas are distributed across all GHA & ERS sites for frontline staff.
  • Working with the Education Department to explore options of creating football themed educational content for children.
  • Assisting GibSams in their efforts to raise awareness of Mental Health issues at this time and get people talking.

Gibraltar Football Association COVID-19 Support.

Over the last week, we at the Gibraltar Football Association have been focusing our efforts in providing support to Gibraltar in these unprecedented times as our community fights the Covid-19 pandemic. With the uncertainty that exists due the global spread of the Coronavirus, our strategy is to try and assist where possible and at all times following the crucial advice we are given by the relevant authorities.

Therefore, in order to identify where best to assist, we have been liaising closely with the GHA and Public Health Gibraltar, discussing possible ways to provide significant support, and we are in awe at the amazing work being done.

Based on the above, and in our efforts to support these incredible people, we have made a donation of £5,000.00 to the GHA for the purchase of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all front line health workers, as they identified the importance of having maximum protection from the virus in order to properly treat those infected.

Additionally, on Tuesday morning, we delivered new iPads to the GHA for them to distribute around their various sites and Hospital Wards. One of the harshest realities of this terrible pandemic is that COVID-19 patients are unable to have their families by their side whilst hospitalised. This applies to all other patients in our hospitals and our elderly community under the care of the GHA and the ERS, who in the current unfortunate circumstances, cannot enjoy the company and support of their families. These iPads will therefore be used for the purpose of facilitating this extremely important communication and much needed family time.

We are also working closely with the GHA to provide them with supplies and materials that we had purchased and stocked for our many upcoming internationals, as well as assisting them by purchasing additional supplies as per their requirements, using our established supply channels.

We are also acutely aware that our frontline health care services are working long hard hours with staff having hardly any rest and little time to access and prepare themselves proper meals. Therefore, we will, once a week (as of last night) for the foreseeable future, provide pizzas to be delivered to all GHA sites, so that those working do not have to think about their next meal.

In parallel to our work with the GHA, we are in discussions with the Department of Education to explore ways in which we can assist at this difficult time when schools have taken on a new role in society and most children are now learning at home. Areas such as content creation and both physical and online learning activities are being explored.

Furthermore we have been in contact with Gibsams, to see how we can assist them in their extremely important work in relation to Mental Health issues, and raising the awareness of the fact that even in self isolation no one needs to be alone, and its ok not to be ok.

Speaking on this subject, Gibraltar FA General Secretary Ivan Robba said:

“From the moment we suspended all competitions, we have redirected all our focus towards those in Gibraltar who need it the most during these times, and we will continue to do so until the final whistle has blown. The Gibraltar FA and all our members take social responsibility very seriously and we are aware that we can all provide meaningful assistance during these very difficult times. We therefore will continue to reach out to other bodies to offer our assistance. In the meantime, I take this opportunity of once again expressing our most sincere and heartfelt gratitude to all those incredible people out there fighting this awful disease on Gibraltar’s front line.”
