Gibraltar’s National Women’s Team lost 2-1 in the second match of their International Friendly double header away in Liechtenstein yesterday afternoon.

The two friendlies this week were Gibraltar’s first ever officially sanctioned fixtures and the National Team have plenty of positives from a tough introduction to international football away from home.

Despite the results, Gibraltar were able to play on the front foot for the majority of the two matches in Liechtenstein, with their more experienced hosts all too keen to sit back and play on the counter attack.  In truth, despite the hosts being more clinical in front of goal, the score lines in both matches somewhat flattered Liechtenstein.

In the first match Shania Robba created history by scoring Gibraltar’s first ever goal in international football, and yesterday, Joelle Gilbert followed up by scoring Gibraltar’s second in a 2-1 defeat.

For Head Coach, Jenssen Olivero, and his backroom team, the week has been a tremendous introduction to international football and plenty to build on for the future with further international fixtures being lined up for the autumn.
