A team of Gibraltar FA Referees spent time at UEFA's Centre for Refereeing Excellence (CORE) last month.

Seth Galia, Denis Perez & Ruben Navarro all spent time developing their overall skills as match officials at UEFA HQ.

Young Referee Seth Galia takes a look back at his expreience:

“The experience of representing Gibraltar FA at the UEFA Centre of Referee Excellence is one that has proved to be extremely educational and valuable for the continuing development for both myself and Gibraltar refereeing. Throughout the week, myself and my two assistant referees Denis Perez and Ruben Navarro undertook a series of physical and theoretical tests, as well as several workshops led by Course Leader Jørn West Larsen, UEFA Chief of Refereeing Roberto Rosetti and several other guests such as match analysts, sports psychologists etc. As part of this experience, myself and my assistants were appointed to a French National 3 match between Besançon FC vs US Charitoise where we were given development points and advice from our coach Ray Ellingham from Wales who is the current Elite Referees Coach in Wales, as well as a member of the International Football Association Board.

Following the 10 day Introductory Course in UEFA, my team and I flew to Stockholm following an invite from the Lennart Johansson Academy Trophy. This tournament, which consisted of youth academies from top European clubs saw us officiate matches such as:

Club Brugge vs PSV

AIK vs Inter Milan

Atlético Madrid vs PAOK

We were extremely fortunate to have been rewarded for our performances with a semi final between FC Barcelona vs Bayern Munich.

The main focus at the moment is to continue working alongside our coach Ray Ellingham in providing updates on our matches between now and the Consolidation Course in October, as well as updating all our training onto our Polar Watches which is monitored by fitness coach Jõao Dias who will provide feedback on all of our training sessions which will aid our improvement as match officials to ensure continued performances in the domestic league.”
