Gibraltar’s National Futsal team have arrived in Bosnia & Herzegovina ahead of their UEFA Futsal Euro Qualifiers which begin tomorrow.
Gibraltar have been drawn in Group A of the Preliminary Qualifiers in a group of 4 alongside Switzerland, Cyprus and Group A hosts Bosnia & Herzegovina. The matches are being held in the city of Zenica, about an hour away from the Bosnian capital Sarajevo.
Head Coach Jose Carlos Gil Prieto will have plenty of positives to take into the tournament, especially given the recent victory over Northern Ireland earlier this month. However he is under no illusions as competitive internationals are a totally different ball game.
Gibraltar will begin their campaign at 7pm tomorrow when they face Switzerland. The Swiss are a much-improved side since their visit to the Tercentenary Hall in 2015 They progressed through their FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Preliminary Group Phase last year so they know exactly how to play in this competition format.
Second up for Gibraltar, on the 30th January are the Group Hosts, Bosnia & Herzegovina. Another side who performed well in the FIFA Futsal World Cup Preliminary Qualifiers this time last year, as the home side they will be determined to ensure they get trough the group and onto the next phase in the competition.
The final match of the group for Gibraltar is an excellent chance for our national Futsal Team to set the record straight against Cyprus who ran out 11-0 winners over Gibraltar this time last year. The 3rd match kicks off at 3pm on the 1st of February.
A tough group for Gibraltar, there is no doubt about this, but one that our National Futsal Team are tremendously looking forward to and eager kick off!
