Gibraltar’s Walking Football team were in action last week at Euro Copa 2024 in the Algarve, Portugal.

The team managed to make it through to the second phase of the tournament, with Brian Mañasco grabbing three goals for Gibraltar along the way. Gibraltar were drawn into Group C for Phase One of the tournament, playing Teighn Drifters in their first match. A first goal of the tournament for Brian Mañasco giving them a 1-0 opening win.

They followed this up with a 1-1 draw against Bolton Nomads, with Mañasco once again acting as Gibraltar’s goal scorer.

Following a well fought 2-2 draw against Odiáxere, which included an outstanding goal from Mario Prescott – and an unlucky 1-0 loss against Cardiff FC. It all came down to their final game against Aulnay to qualify for the next phase. Goals from Gilbert Licudi and the prolific Brian Mañasco ensured a 2-0 victory for Gibraltar, securing their position in the second phase of the competition in Group B.

Here they faced the eventual runners-up Northern Ireland, and in a closely contested but goalless match, the points were shared between the two sides. Despite being the stronger side against Culcheth Walkers in their next game, Gibraltar were caught off guard, losing the game 2-1 after leading via a Gilbert Licudi opener.

The team’s final match was against tournament winners West Hartlepool, who proved a formidable opponent, closing out Gibraltar’s offensive line for a dominant 2-0 victory. Gibraltar left the tournament with three wins from their nine games, making it through the first stage of the tournament, and scoring a handful of goals along the way.
