Ahead of the upcoming International Friendlies against Slovenia and Andorra, Julio Ribas’ men have been hard at work in preparation to once again make Gibraltar proud.
With the match against Slovenia less than a week away, we caught up with one of Gibraltar’s up and coming defensive stalwarts, Bilal Douah, who put into words just how much it would mean for him to form part of the squad if he was selected.
How does it feel to be part of the senior National setup?
It feels great. It is every kids dream to be part of the first team and I’m very proud to be training with the squad.
What do you feel you can learn from Julio?
To be honest I’ve learnt a lot from Julio so far. I’ve learnt to play fast and to press – let’s say i lose the ball, I need to press to win it back. That’s one of the things, but I’ve learnt a lot from Julio in a short space of time.
What can you provide the National Team?
I’ve found that I’m good at pressing, stealing the ball off the opposition and I fight a lot for the team, such as if I lose possession, I’ll fight hard and make sure I win it back.
What would it mean if you got selected?
It would mean the world to me. I’ve sacrificed a lot like everyone else, I’ve worked and trained really hard for this and hopefully I’ll get the chance to prove it and make myself and my family proud.
You have come through the youth setup, how has this helped?
It’s been great, I’ve had the coach, Malcolm Martin, who has helped me a lot in the U19’s. The training we did is the same we do here, it’s very intense ad it’s great.
What does it mean to you to play for Gibraltar?
It means everything to me, its great. It’s great to play for and represent this country, I’m looking forward to hopefully getting my chance.
