The Gibraltar FA has this week, in conjunction with Selina Ltd, installed a giant football recycling bin at the Victoria Stadium.

The recycling bin, which follows on from similar collection points that have been set up across Gibraltar’s beaches in recent years is aimed at collecting all of the plastic waste that is left over as players, coaches, youngsters and users of the Victoria Stadium produce, as they rehydrate themselves whilst playing football.

Officially opening the Recycling Bin, at today’s first session of the Gibraltar FA’s annual summer camp, Technical Director Desi Curry was delighted:

“We are glad that we can now start to do our bit to help Gibraltar become a cleaner and more plastic free community. We are encouraging all of our children here this week to bring reusable water bottles with them to the summer camp, which we have been distributing in the past. And those that do not will be encouraged by all of our coaches and on-site staff, as part of our educational processes, to make sure they make use of this wonderful new recycling bin.

Football across all age groups and abilities uses a lot of water and water bottles, so we hope that with this initial recycling bin, which will remain on site permanently, we can start to move our beloved sport into a more plastic free environment.”
