Gibraltar take on Switzerland in the Stade de Tourbillon, Sion, in the second of this week’s European Qualifiers double header.
Switzerland are currently ranked 11thin FIFA’s World Rankings and are the highest ranked team in Group D. With one Win and two draws from their three group games, so far, the Swiss will be looking to get their Qualifying campaign back on track in the alpine town of Sion on Sunday evening.
On Thursday evening they looked set to come away from the Aviva Stadium with all three points and a huge away win, but a last minute David McGoldrick equaliser cancelled out Fabian Schar’s opener. In front of an expectant home crowd, Switzerland, who made the UEFA Nations League Final Four, will need to deliver.
For Gibraltar, Julio Ribas and his team of ‘Gibraltarian Warriors’ or ‘Guerreros Gibraltanos’ (as he affectionately refers to them) it’s all about progress and developing as a team. Only three of the players who started versus Denmark were over 24 years of age.
Ribas put his team through their final training session this morning, going through the last minute deatils as is his extremely thorough style.
