UEFA’s Executive Committee has today announced its plans to restart UEFA International and club competitions following on from its latest videoconference meeting held with Member Association General Secretaries earlier today.

The postponing of UEFA’s flagship National Team Competition, EURO 2020, to next summer, has freed up fixture dates allowing the completion of this season’s UEFA Champions League and Europa League which will see changes to its traditional format and all the remaining ties and rounds taking place in August.

Consequently, and crucially for Gibraltar, International Football will return in September 2020 with the UEFA Nations League. The traditional September, October and November international windows will remain and UEFA will now reassess the fixtures and announce new dates and times in due course.

The UEFA Women’s Futsal EURO Preliminary Qualifiers, in which Gibraltar’s Women were set to play their first ever competitive international matches at the Tercentenary Hall, have  been moved to May 2021.

For Gibraltar’s Clubs who have qualified for European Competition next season (2020/21), Club Competition Qualifiers will begin in August and will be played over one leg with the home team being determined at the relevant draw in July.

Here is all the detailed info, as announced by UEFA today, on the UEFA Nations League, UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League which affects Gibraltar’s National Team and Clubs who have qualified for European Competition for next season:

European Qualifiers Play-Offs and 2020/21 UEFA Nations League Group Stage

The national team football windows of October and November 2020 will now feature triple-headers instead of double-headers, thus allowing the postponed European Qualifiers Play-Offs to be rescheduled for the beginning of the respective windows, on 7/8 October and 11/12 November.

The group stage matches of the 2020/21 UEFA Nations League will be played on the following matchdays: 3/4/5 and 6/7/8 September; 10/11 and 13/14 October; 14/15 and 17/18 November 2020.

Friendly matches will be played on 7/8 October and 11/12 November.

The fixtures with confirmed dates and kick-off times will be announced in due course on UEFA.com

UEFA Women’s Futsal EURO 2022

The preliminary round will be played between 4 and 9 May 2021; the main round between 19 and 24 October 2021; the finals between 24 to 27 March 2022.

UEFA Champions League/UEFA Europa League 2020/21

In order to achieve the necessary separation with the final phase of the 2019/20 season and avoid impact on the access list and on clubs potentially involved in both competition phases, the qualifying rounds of the two competitions will be played in single legs (instead of home and away), with the only exception of the UEFA Champions League Play-offs which will remain over two legs. The draw will determine which club will play the single leg in their stadium.
