An eagerly anticipated UEFA Nations League Draw took place at UEFA's headquarters in Nyon this evening, behind closed doors due to tightend restrictions due to the COVID pandemic.
For Gibraltar, this would the first time that the National Team would feature in a League C draw, given the superb performances they put in in the previous campaign under the expert guidance of Julio Ribas and his backroom staff. So much so that Gibraltar were actually seeded 47th for today’s draw.
As expected, the League C draw has thrown up come incredibly tough but familiar opponents, all of whom have played against Gibraltar in recent times – Georgia, North Macedonia and Bulgaria.
Georgia have featured in two of Gibraltar’s recent European Qualifying campaigns the last of which saw them win a thrilling Euro 2020 qualifier 3-2 at the Victoria Stadium.
North Macedonia were the first ever visitors to the Victoria Stadium for a competitive international, in the inaugural edition of the UIEFA Nations League in 2018. And finally, Bulgaria who ran out 3-0 winners over Gibraltar, just over a year ago, in an international friendly in November 2020.
Familiar opponents but a monumental task awaits Gibraltar in League C Group 4 of the 3rd edition of the UEFA Nations League which begins in June of next year. Exact fixtures and matchdays will be published and confirmed by UEFA shortly.
